ATHENS, Ohio (March 23, 2020) -

In response to Governor Mike DeWine’s press conference on Sunday March 22, 2020 the city of Athens Arts, Parks and Recreation Department is now closing the following park amenities within public parks until further notice.

Playgrounds, Park Shelters to include picnic tables and Public restrooms will be closed beginning Monday March 23, 2020.

Other park areas: Basketball courts, Tennis courts, Athletic Fields, Skate Park and Dog Parks, and our trails and green spaces will remain open. Citizens are encouraged to practice social distancing when visiting these areas of our parks, and should implement “Best Practices for Safe Play” when bringing families to our public parks such as maintaining a 6 foot distance, wash/sanitize hands often, and avoid gathering in large groups.

We encourage you to visit our parks and green spaces – get outdoors! The Ohio Parks and Recreation Association and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources have issued a joint statement urging Ohioans to get outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please see the link below to view the statement.
