The Four Elements Project Descriptions:

Elemental Bowls
Which element are you? This is the question students will have to answer in this thought provoking project. A slump bowl will be created, and then an object that represents water, earth, fire or air will be designed and placed in the bowl. After kiln firing, students will decorate with glaze, and colorful glass will be melted in the bowl to add a special touch.

Eastern or Western Dragons
The similarities and differences of Eastern and Western dragons will be studied before students create their chosen version of the beast! Using coil and slab techniques, the students will build their dragons, then glazes will be applied for color.

Green Men
The Celtic spirit of the forest known as “The Green Man” will be the inspiration for this slab built project. Students will create a face, and then adorn it with leaf shapes to create hair and a beard. Green underglazes will be added for color.

Winged Things
The Students’ imagination will soar to create a thing that flies with wings! The body of their creation will be formed out of clay. Once fired, the winged things will be painted, and given wings made of cardboard and real feathers.
