The City of Athens announces that a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Richland Avenue South Improvements Project will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 12:30 pm at the Ohio University Inn and Conference Center’s east parking lot.
The Richland Avenue South Improvements Project reconstructed Richland Avenue between Dairy Lane and Canterbury Drive. The improvements included a section of waterline replacement, sanitary sewer lining, storm system improvements, installation of decorative lighting, upgrading the Richland/Hooper signal, replacing the curbing and sidewalks, adding dedicated bike lanes to the street, and re-paving the street. Select sidewalk improvements were also completed on Richland Avenue between Canterbury Drive and Pomeroy Road, and a new section of sidewalk was installed on Hooper Street. American Structurepoint designed the project. The prime contractor for the project was Shelly and Sands, Incorporated. Michael Baker Jr. Incorporated and the City of Athens completed inspection of the project.
This project was funded through local street, water, sanitary, and storm sewer funds, and federal Transportation Alternatives, Safety, and Small Cities Program funds administered through the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Members of the public and community are invited to participate in the brief ceremony and ribbon cutting. Questions may be directed to the City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department, 740-593-7636.
