The City of Athens Engineering & Public Works Department has contracted with Nuko Paving to complete the 2017 Street Improvements, which will include milling, paving, and crack sealing.


Pavement milling is the removal of sections of old pavement with a grinder in order to ensure new pavement is placed at the proper elevation.

The milling/paving schedule is as follows:

Charles Street from East State Street to Pleasantview Drive: July 17, 2017

Old Coach from Longview Heights to #67: July 22, 2017

Avon Place from E. State Street to Sells Park: July 22, 2017

West State Street from N. Shafer Street to West State Street Park: July 22, 2017

Byard Street from N. Shafer Street to Smith Street: July 22, 2017

Pratt Street from Byard Street to W. Washington Street: July 22, 2017

Second Street from Curran Drive to Columbus Road/N. Lancaster: July 24, 2017*

Mound Street from W. Carpenter Street to Pine Place: July 25, 2017

Stewart Street from Mill Street to E. Union Street: July 26, 2017

Canterbury Drive from Mulligan to Lamar: July 27, 2017

Farhills Drive from Pomeroy Road for a distance of 1140-feet: July 28, 2017

*Milling date is dependent on concrete work completion

*NOTE: Paving will occur after projects in these areas have been completed.

Paving Schedule

Paving will begin July 31st, 2017. We will provide an updated schedule when it is submitted to our office.

Schedule updates for the project will be posted regularly on the City of Athens website ( 

This schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

One lane traffic will be maintained, however, motorists are encouraged to avoid the work areas.

Parking on the street will not be allowed during the scheduled work. On street parking will be removed 24 hours in advance of work days.
