The City of Athens will be accepting bids for mowing of grass and weeds within the City as directed by the Department of Development, Enforcement & Facilities (hereafter known as “the department”). This bid request is only for implementation of Athens City Ordinance 0-147-90 (Athens City Code 9.10) which authorizes the department to cut all types of noxious grass, weeds and vegetation declared a nuisance on private property.
Bids are to assume the minimum height of grass and weeds to be cut will be 8 inches. Finished height should be no more than 3 inches. The base bid for the contract is to be predicated on a flat fee, inclusive all of costs, to mow and trim a lot size up to and including one quarter acre. Larger lots will be priced as a multiple of each additional quarter acre or portion thereof. Also included in the bid should be a “show-up fee” which would be applicable when the department orders a property cut but it was already remedied by the owner when the contractor arrives. The department will advise the contractor of proposed lot size at the time work is requested. Any determination of lot size larger than one quarter acre must be verified and approved in advance by the department.
Bids for brush hogging should be figured similarly and a separate base bid, flat fee submitted for quarter acre job sites. Requests for brush hogging will normally originate with the department based on site evaluation. Upgrades from mowing to brush hogging must be approved by the department prior to commencement of work.
The successful bidder must provide proof of commercial property and liability insurance in an amount sufficient to indemnify the City of Athens against claims arising from the actions of the bidder and must provide a certificate naming the City of Athens as an additional insured.
