[ARCHIVED] Athens County Community Singers “A Choir for All Voices” Thursday, December 19 at 7pm

Athens County Community Singers “A Choir for All Voices”

On Thursday, December 19 at 7pm, the Athens County Community Singers will present their first annual Christmas Concert, an ARTS/West Presents event. Located at 132 W State St in Athens, ARTS/West is a part of the City of Athens, Arts, Parks & Recreation Department. There is a $10 suggested donation with group rates available and the concert will start at 7pm. The Athens County Community Singers, formally the ATCO Vocal Choir, is a choir for “all voices”, those with and without disabilities. Currently they meet at the ATCO Workshop located on Campbell St. in Athens on Thursdays from 1:00 – 1:45. This concert will feature a variety of selections including sing-a-longs for the audience, solos and duets, selections with instrument accompaniment provided by choir members and Ohio University Music Therapy Students. Founder and director, Stephanie H. Morris, MT-BC (Music Therapist-Board Certified) and Neurologic Music Therapist states, “This is going to be a GREAT concert. Everyone has worked so hard and have had fun in the process.” The choir is mainly composed of individuals who either attend the ATCO Workshop, funded by the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities or live and work in the community. Stephanie states she would like to see this choir expand and involve more individuals with and without disabilities from Athens County. She states, “ATCO is not the only day habilitation program in the Athens area. We would like to see other individuals who love to sing become members of this choir. We hope as more people learn about the Athens County Community Singers that more individuals will be interested in joining and being a part of this great group of people who love to make music.” This concert is the second concert for the choir year. The choir performed for the Association of Ohio Music Therapy Convention at Ohio University in October 2013. The choir is looking forward to performing in 2014 at the annual Disabilities Festival in March, the Central Ohio Music Therapy Spring Recital at Ohio University in late April, and a patriotic concert around the July 4th holiday. Rehearsals for these performances will begin in February. Please contact the director, Stephanie, at Stephanie.h.morris@gmail.com or by calling 254-709-4331 for more information.
