West Union Street Stormwater Improvements
The Contractor is continuing work this week on the installation of stormwater enhancements along West Union Street.
The stormwater enhancements include three components:
• Biofiltration boxes are currently being installed on West Union Street, between Smith Street and Depot Street, to reduce the quantity and improve the quality of stormwater entering the manufactured water quality system.
• A manufactured water quality system will be installed to treat stormwater generated from the City's west side. The system will remove sand, floatable organic material, trash, and oil from stormwater runoff before it is discharged to a tributary of Oxbow Creek, the receiving water for the west side's stormwater. The installation of the system is expected to begin towards the end of this week.
• A restoration project will be completed to the tributary to Oxbow Creek, located near Depot Street and Ohio University's Life Sciences Building. The stream restoration project includes removing a section of concrete lining, installing cobbles and large stones to slow velocity, removing invasive species and planting native species along the riparian area. The restoration project is expected to begin the week of November 17.
The stormwater enhancements are made possible with funding assistance from the Ohio EPA Surface Water Improvements Fund.
