  3. Afternoon Arts Classes for Kids at Arts West

    Starting August 26, in 8 week sessions, students in grades K-5 will experience arts instruction in a variety of disciplines. Students can be registered for one or more classes(days) per week. Schedule: Mondays: Theater Class with Janai Travis; Tuesdays: Visual Art 3-D Class with April Felipe; Wednesdays: Music Class with Lawrence Greene; Thursdays: Visual Art 2-D Class with April Felipe.   4. Fearless: Women's Journeys to Self-Empowerment

    August 29, 2019, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM @ Arts West

    A spoken word event. In seeking a way to provide women a platform on which to be heard, and inspired by the #MeToo movement, editor Cat Pleska, for Mountain State Press, collected essays, stories, and poems from 30 women throughout Appalachia. Each wrote about her most challenging moment and how she learned to not just endure, but also to prevail. Curated by Athens Poet Laureate Kari Gunter-Seymour, this event will include readings from the book as well as an open mic for other "fearless" poems. Donations for Arts West the night of the readings will be appreciated. Light refreshments will be served.
