Preschool Teacher

The City of Athens, Ohio is now seeking qualified candidates for the position of Preschool Teacher. This position maintains supervision of a group of preschool children, while also implementing weekly nature-based lesson plans. The nature-based preschool is held at the Athens Community Center, and requires a portion of lessons to be implemented outdoors, utilizing the Community Center’s campus. This is a part-time position in the unclassified service of the City, and is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The starting pay for Preschool Teacher is $13.00 per hour. Tuition benefits may be available upon hire for eligible applicants. The regular work schedule for Preschool Teacher is Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.


Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and implement weekly, nature-based lesson plans that reflect the needs of the children, the standards of early childhood education and nature-based certification.
  • Maintain supervision of a group of preschool children at all times during daily routine and field trips, which may include, but not limited to, riding on a bus, walks to East State Street Park, or routine field trips around the Athens Community Center Campus.
  • Aid in directing and supervising volunteers, practicum students and/or student teachers throughout each quarter.
  • Obligated to enforce and follow center and licensing rules.
  • Responsible for preparing and filling out forms that relate to center and licensing regulations such as, but not limited to incident reports, progress notes, student evaluations, weekly newsletters, etc.
  • Responsible for checking each child upon arrival for signs of communicable diseases, checking attendance, contacting parents if child is absent, and maintaining supervision of sign in and out procedures.
  • Attendance at staff meetings, mandatory trainings, open house, and parent-teacher conferences.

 

 Position Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and maintain an excellent driving record throughout employment.
  • Must remain current on First Aid/CPR certifications; those certified in First Aid/CPR are considered occupationally-at-risk for bloodborne pathogens.
  • Must have an Associate’s degree in early childhood education.
  • Experience with developing lesson plans and activities for preschool children preferably using Emergent Curriculum, Creative Curriculum, Reggio Emilia, or play-based learning.
  • Additional training in communicable disease and child abuse prevention is also required and provided.
  • Candidate must satisfactorily complete a BCI and FBI background check.


Position Specifications

  • Supervision of a maximum of 20 preschool children.
  • Occasional standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent direct communications with parents/guardians, children, staff, and the public.
  • Visual observation at both near and far distances.
  • Work both inside and outside in varying environmental and atmospheric conditions including, but not limited to, rain, wind, snow, etc.
  • Excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal communications skills.

Before/After School Childcare Instructor


Position Responsibilities:

Day care instructor for the before and after school program. This program will be in the mornings Monday – Friday 7:00am – 8:45am and in the afternoons Monday – Friday 3:15pm – 5:30pm. The Day Care Instructor will be responsible for the care of the children enrolled in the before and after school program. The Day Care Instructor will also be responsible for planning and implementing engaging learning activities for students in the after school program.

Responsibilities: Actively supervise children in the before and after school program. Plan activities and implement as needed. Supervise quiet time, free play activities, and playground time. Sign in and out participants in the before and after school program. Be actively responsible and engaged in classroom management and behavior. Clean used areas and toys at the completion of each day. Assist other child care programs such as child watch and toddler classes as needed.


The before and after school program follows the same closure schedule as the Athens City School District. 


Additional Requirements/Qualifications:

Education/Experience: High School Graduate. Experience working with children preferred. Experience with grades k-6 preferred. Excellent communication skills, personable, and energetic with parents and children in the programs.

Fitness Supervisor

The City of Athens is currently hiring for the position of Fitness Supervisor in the Athens Community Center. Fitness Supervisors are responsible for: keeping the weight room clean/sanitized/organized, supervising patrons’ use of the weight room/gym/exercise studio/track, giving new patrons orientations of equipment, possessing general knowledge of fitness and fitness equipment. Fitness supervisors are considered the first responders to any accident that takes place in the weight room/exercise studio/track/gym.

 

Prior work experience in a fitness center and CPR/First Aid/AED certification is preferred. Applicants currently pursuing a degree in exercise physiology, sport management, athletic training, or recreation sciences will be highly considered.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered. 

 

This is a part-time, year round position in the Community Center, which operates six days a week. Shifts will range from as early as 6 a.m. and as late at 8 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday hours will be occasionally required as well.  The starting pay rate is $11.00 per hour.

Community Center Building Supervisor

The City of Athens, Ohio is now seeking qualified candidates for the part-time position of Community Center Building Supervisor for the Arts, Parks, and Recreation Department.

           
Community Center Building Supervisors are responsible for assisting front desk staff, supervising the functions of the facility by making rounds, setting up and taking down tables and chairs for rentals and special events, and being the main point of contact when full time staff is not in the building. Ability to problem solve, work directly with the public in a friendly and professional manner, and perform many different functions is essential. This is a part-time, year round position and applicants must be able to work weekend mornings, afternoons, and evenings, and occasional weekday evenings. This position is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. At least a one year commitment is preferred.

Community Center Cashier

Cashiers are responsible for all front desk duties including but not limited to; registering people for memberships, classes, visitor passes, answering phones, selling bus tickets, and providing general information about the department to the public. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, work directly with the public in a friendly and professional manner, and perform many different functions is essential. Must be able to learn and be adept at computer registration systems. At least a one year commitment is preferred.


This is a part-time, year round position in the Community Center, which operates six days a week. Shifts will range from as early as 6 a.m. and as late at 8 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday hours will be occasionally required as well.  The starting pay rate is $11.00 per hour.
