After School Arts: Ceramics - A Trip to Japan (K-5th grade)

In Ceramics class, students will get a chance to experience different techniques to create art with clay. Our theme this unit will be A Trip to Japan!

In Ceramics class, students will get a chance to experience different techniques to create art with clay. Our theme this unit will be A Trip to Japan!

Elementary Student Schedule:

3:45-4:15pm: Students arrive / Snack Time (students bring their own snack)

4:15-5:15pm: Class Time

5:15-5:30: Wind Down, Cleanup & Pick up time

***Please note we will NOT be meeting on Thursday, November 25th.

A Trip to Japan Ceramics Descriptions:

Godzilla
The rampaging giant lizard will come to life as the students learn pinch pot and slab techniques. Their Godzillas will be decorated with glazes, lizard eyes, and flames!

Pokemon
Gotta Catch em All! Students will design their very own Pokemon, which will be decorated with glazes. They also will get to design a Pokeball for their monster to emerge from for battle.

Kawaii Donuts
The Japanese art style of “Kawaii”, will be interpreted into adorable donuts. This one day project will allow the students to create a realist looking donut, decorated with frosting and sprinkles.



About the Instructor:

Emily Beveridge is an artist, arts educator and The Program Specialist for Arts West. She has decades of experience teaching classes, at camps, and outreach opportunities for children in the visual arts. She loves creating art with children, especially ceramics projects and anything humorous or animal themed!
