The City of Athens will conduct repairs to an unknown utility beneath the Carpenter St. and E. State St. intersection beginning at 8am on Monday November 2nd. This failure has been contributing to a slowly-developing sinkhole in the area. Initially, right turns will be prohibited from Carpenter St., left turns will be prohibited from Stimson Ave., and westbound E. State St. through traffic will be prohibited. As the work progresses, further traffic movements may be restricted. Movement restrictions will remain overnight each night until the project is complete. The work is expected to take 2 to 5 days.
