ARTS/West has joined with CE Fitness to bring Zumba to the West Side! Currently running, this exciting class provides a full body workout including cardio, toning, and strength training. Light hand weights (1 to 2 pounds) will be incorporated into all classes, through the use of hand weights is always optional for all students. If you are ready for a fitness challenge, the join our class. The goal of the instructor is to provide a full body workout that will give you results. Get ready to party yourself into shape! This exhilarating, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie burning dance fitness-party (TM) will move YOU! Instructor, Carolyn Ervin has been a fitness instructor for over 20 years. Carolyn has taught aerobics, strength and toning classes with the YMCA in Tennessee and is certified as a Reebok Step Aerobics Instructor and Strength trainer. Carolyn has been certified to teach Zumba since 2010 and has recently received certification to teach Zumba toning.

On Saturday February 27, 2016, ARTS/West will begin holding Tai Chi classes every Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. During the course of this 9 week class, we will be starting with some basic Tai Chi principles such as posture, how to move, breath, and mind focus. Every class will include some Qi Gong to warm up followed by Tai Chi movements which can be done standing or even sitting for ease of learning. For those who are able, Tai Chi walking will be introduced after all movements are learned standing. By week 9, students will be able to perform the whole form whether it be moving, sitting, or standing.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, ARTS/West will begin holding Landscape Painting classes every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 pm. We will explore the elements of design to build compelling landscapes. Participants may choose between oil, acrylic or watercolor. Different approaches and techniques will be covered to find what works best for you. Beginning with a simple landscape of the instructor’s choosing, we will then move to more personal landscapes.

On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, ARTS/West will begin holding Telling Stories with Collage classes every Wednesday from 7:15 to 8:45 pm. We all have stories to tell. Stories about people, events, and places that are important to us. They document our life and form our and our family’s histories. Learn to tell your stories creatively. Beginning with simple subject matter on a 2D surface, then we will move to more complex story telling ranging from the straight forward to conceptual themes. A variety of techniques, materials, textures and formats will be covered. In the first session, I will bring a variety of materials for participants to explore and experiment with. Sources for materials will be discussed.
