Thompson Excavation, the trail Contractor for the Columbus Road Bikepath Spur Project, is expected to begin construction activities for the project the week of March 7, 2016.
The Columbus Road Bikepath Spur Project will connect the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway near Currier Street to the Columbus Road area of the city, near Columbus Circle, through construction of a new non-motorized bridge over the Hocking River.
The project will be managed in phases.
· Phase 1 - Trail Work, is scheduled to occur between early March and July 2016. This phase includes trail construction, and the installation of stormwater structures.
· Phase 2 - Bridge Work and Finish Trail Work, is scheduled to be completed June through October 2016. The Contractor for this phase is the Righter Company, and work includes all bridge-related items, final grading and paving of the trail, and railing installation.
This significant improvement project has been in planning and design since 2012 and is funded through the City of Athens, the Ohio Department of Transportation's Transportation Alternatives Program, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Clean Ohio Trails Fund.
The bikepath is expected to remain open during the construction of the spur.
