Athens City Police Scam Alert!
On July 22, 2016 Athens Police were contacted by a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada in regards to a telephone scam. The phone number used was (740) 593-6606 which is an emergency for the Athens Police Department. The caller(s) contacted the victim several times claiming to be associated with the I.R.S., F.B.I., and a police department.
Please be advised that police will not contact you by phone to obtain sensitive information such as your social security number, bank account numbers, or any other personal identification information.
** If you are not certain of who is calling you DO NOT give them any information.
** You may report suspicious calls to police.
