[ARCHIVED] APD to participate in “Shop with a Cop”

The Athens Police Department is once again this year partnering with the Athens Fire Department, Ohio University Police Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the City of Athens for our annual “Shop with a Cop” program. The Police Department secured a grant from the WalMart Foundation ($2000) and will be utilizing the WalMart store on E. State St. to shop with children from the Athens City School District. There have been thirty children identified who will shop with Police Officers and Fire Fighters Sunday afternoon, Dec. 11, 2016 starting at 1:00 PM.

When the shopping is completed officers will offer the children a ride in a police cruiser to the Athens Community Center (approximately around 2:00 PM)where volunteers will help the children wrap their gifts, have pizza and snacks, and get an opportunity to meet Santa Claus.

The police and fire vehicles will go parade style from the WalMart store to the Community Center with lights and sirens on, for the excitement of the children. This is to inform the public that it is not any type of emergency,  just part of our Shop with a Cop program.  Thank you!
