WATER SITUATION UPDATE:
As of 4pm on Thursday, February 16th, 2017, the Athens Water Department is continuing work on a major waterline break in the 300 block of W. State Street. The City of Athens continues to experience wide outages in the center and western portions of the city, and the entire city is under a system-wide boil order. Currently, the city anticipates the boil order to continue through Friday evening, and possibly into Saturday morning, based on the duration of the repair. A follow-on press release will provide the exact time the boil order will be lifted.
The city will distribute a limited amount of bottled water to Athens water customers. Customers may pick up one case per car at the maintenance building in front of the Athens Community Center at 701 E. State Street up until 8pm on Thursday evening, and 8am through 6pm on Friday.
Special needs customers who are homebound may coordinate for a delivery of bottled water from the Athens County chapter of the American Red Cross by calling the Athens County EMA office at 740-594-2261 up until 8pm Thursday, and beginning again at 8am on Friday.
The City of Athens apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Questions or concerns may be directed to the City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department, 740-593-7636.
