Construction Update - US Rt. 33 Westbound E. State St. Exit and Stimson Ave./N. McKinley Project
Beginning May 1, the US 33 westbound entrance ramp at East State Street in Athens County will be closed for concrete pavement installation. The anticipated completion date is May 15, 2017. The detour is as follows: travel east on East State Street, take the ramp for US 50 westbound, then take the ramp for US 33 westbound.

McKinley Avenue Extension/Stimson Avenue Roundabout Project, Project 302
The City of Athens has awarded the McKinley Avenue Extension/Stimson Avenue Roundabout Project to Freedom Construction Enterprises, Inc.
The project includes constructing a new access road, with the proposed name of McKinley Avenue between Mill Street and Stimson Avenue, including associated intersection improvements. A new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Stimson Avenue and the proposed McKinley Avenue.
The project will be managed in phases.
· Phase 1A - Stimson Avenue Roundabout: This phase of the project includes the construction of a roundabout at the Stimson Avenue and proposed McKinley Avenue intersection. This work is scheduled to occur between early May and mid-July. During this time, Stimson Avenue will be closed between McKinley Avenue and Rock Riffle Road. A vehicle and pedestrian detour will be in place. A detour will be in place to access the Ohio University fields used for recreation. All Stimson Avenue area businesses will be open according to their normally-scheduled hours.
· Phase 1B - McKinley Avenue Construction: This phase of the project includes the reconstruction of McKinley Avenue. This work is scheduled to occur between early May and early August. During this time, McKinley Avenue will be closed. A vehicle and pedestrian detour will be in place. Access to the residential parking lot for Mill Street Village and access to the Russ College of Engineering and Technology Center will be maintained.
Freedom Construction Enterprises, Inc. is expected to begin preliminary construction activities for the project the week of April 24, 2017, with construction planned to begin the first week of May.
This significant improvements project is funded through the City of Athens, Ohio University, the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Ohio Development Services Agency, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
