[ARCHIVED] Water Outage Notice - Road Closure Update - East State Street and Madison Avenue

Waterline Work/Street Closure – East State Street and Madison Avenue

The City of Athens announces East State Street will be reduced to one lane for westbound traffic only, and the East-bound lane of East State Street will be closed to thru traffic, but emergency vehicles will have access. Eastbound traffic will be detoured using Elmwood Place to Watt Street. The work will begin on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 6 A. M. until completion, to remove the old section of water main on East State Street at Madison Avenue.

Parking will be restricted on the South side of Elmwood Place between East State Street and Watt Street beginning Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 6 A. M., all violators will be towed.

Madison Avenue will remain closed between East State Street and Franklin Avenue, including Franklin Avenue near intersecting with Madison Avenue on June 7, 2017 thru June 15, 2017 to traffic, but local residents will have access.  Madison Avenue traffic will be detoured using Spring Street to Evans Street to return to East State Street.

Please use caution and follow all work zone signs, Observe speed limit signs, Slow Down while driving through work zones, Do not drive around road closed signs.   

A Water Service Outage for Madison Avenue, Spring Street, and a small section of Franklin Avenue will begin Thursday, June 8 at 7:00 am until completion, in order to complete several water line tie-ins and cap off the old section of water main. A boil order will be issued for this area when water service is restored. Fire hydrants will be flushing in the area during the entire boil order duration to ensure public health and safety and water quality.
