The City of Athens, in cooperation with Ohio University, is hosting an Open House to provide interested parties an opportunity to review and comment on the planned pedestrian improvements project on Richland Avenue.
Richland Avenue is the main principal arterial on the south side of the City of Athens, serving approximately a third of the City's population. The existing at-grade crosswalk on Richland Avenue, between Bobcat Lane and West Green Drive, sees 6615 pedestrians per day with 584 pedestrians crossing during peak hour (2015 data).
The Richland Avenue Pedestrian Passageway Project is a proposed safety improvement to Richland Avenue at the existing at-grade crosswalk, and includes construction of a pedestrian passageway to separate pedestrian and vehicle traffic and alleviate traffic congestion issues on Richland Avenue.
The Open House will be held Tuesday February 20, from 3:30 pm to 6 pm in the Grover Center Atrium, 53 Richland Avenue. City and Ohio University representatives, along with representatives from Burgess & Niple, the design firm, will be available during the Open House for general questions about the project, and to gather feedback and any concerns about the project, environmental issues, historic issues, or features in the project area. Citizens are encouraged to drop by any time between 3:30 pm and 6 pm to complete a comment form, speak with a member of the project team, and share their thoughts on the project. There is no fixed program.
Information from the Open House, including the comment form, will be posted on the City's website, www.ci.athens.oh.us/115/Engineering-and-Public-Works, by February 20, 2018 and will be available for review and comment until midnight on Thursday, March 22, 2018.
