[ARCHIVED] Public Water System

Logo for Engineering and Public Works Department for the City of Athens, OH

The City of Athens Public Water System is experiencing on-going instances of air in water lines. This is due to water level changes in the final clear well at the water treatment plant that are necessary for valve replacement during the Water Treatment Plant Improvements Project. Microscopic air bubbles may make the water appear milky. The water is safe to drink. If desired, letting the water sit in a container for several minutes will allow it clarify.

The Water Treatment Plant Improvements Project is a $6mil+ effort to replace controls, electronic equipment, valves, and pumps at the City of Athens Water Treatment Plant, as well as energy efficiency upgrades including a 195kW solar array. This long overdue project will modernize the plant and ensure high-quality drinking water to the citizens of Athens for years to come.

Questions or concerns may be directed to the City of Athens Water Treatment Plant, 740-592-3344.
