[ARCHIVED] Richland Avenue Bridge Replacement Project

Logo for Engineering and Public Works Department for the City of Athens, OH

The Richland Avenue Bridge Replacement Project is located near 362 Richland Avenue, between Greenbrier Drive and the Richland Avenue entrance to the Summit at Coates Run property.

The project consists of removal of the existing bridge slab, abutments, and center pier, and replacement with a single span reinforced concrete slab on new abutments. The proposed bridge width (roadway, sidewalk, and railing) will match the existing. The existing configuration (10-foot travel lanes, 5-foot bikelanes, and 5-foot sidewalks) will be maintained.

George J. Igel & Company, Incorporated, the Contractor for the Richland Avenue Bridge Replacement Project, is expected to begin mobilizing to the site on May 1, 2019 and begin work on the project on May 6, 2019.

This project will be completed with partial width construction in two phases. During each phase, one lane of Richland Avenue will be closed between the entrance to the Summit at Coates Run and Greenbrier Drive. Two-way traffic will be maintained with a temporary traffic signal. One side of the sidewalk will be closed during each phase - pedestrian traffic will be directed to use the open sidewalk.

The project is expected to be completed in late August, 2019.
