Volunteers Needed for Great American Cleanup Event Saturday, April 27, 8 a.m. till noon at the Wayne National Forest Headquarters
Keep Southeast Ohio Beautiful and Keep Ohio Beautiful is partnering with the Ohio Department of Transportation to recruit volunteers for a U.S. Route 33 Roadside Cleanup event in Athens County, all in support of the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup campaign.
This event is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013 between 8 a.m. and noon at the Wayne National Forest headquarters located between The Plains and Nelsonville, Ohio. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.
Individual or group volunteers are asked to register their team online in advance of the cleanup event at http://bit.ly/XFStGP or visit the Ohio Department of Transportation Adopt-A-Highway website at www.dot.state.oh.us .
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the following additional activities are open to the public:
• FREE Scrap Tire Drop-off, with the capacity to collect up to 1200 scrap tires thanks to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Athens City-County Health Department and Athens Sheriff’s Department.
• FREE Shred Day for confidential records by Information Destruction Services, Inc.
• FREE disposal of prescription drugs in support of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
“This is our second year hosting an event that offers volunteers an opportunity to help cleanup area roadways and offering a collection site for scrap tires. Last year, we held two events and collected almost 3,000 tires,” said Wayne National Forest Spokesman Gary C. Chancey. “We hope the public also takes advantage of this chance to shred and recycle unwanted confidential records at no cost.”
