The City of Athens announces that a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for the new Richland Avenue Bridge over Oxbow Creek will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at noon. The event will be held at the southern end of the bridge on Richland Avenue.
The Oxbow Bridge Project was a complete bridge rehabilitation project that preserved the historic design elements of the 1932 built bridge that formerly crossed the Hocking River. Jones Stuckey, LTD, Inc. designed the project. The prime contractor for the project was Shelly and Sands, Incorporated. Michael Baker Jr. Inc. and the City of Athens completed the inspection of the project. Ohio University collaborated and partnered with the City of Athens on the design and construction of the project and the completion of pedestrian safety improvements. This project was funded through local money, Ohio University funds, and federal municipal bridge funds administered through the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Members of the public and community are invited to participate in the brief ceremony and ribbon cutting. Questions may be directed to the City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department, 740-593-7636.
