North Court Street Infrastructure Improvements Project
This project consists of replacing the existing storm tunnel under North Court Street (located near Fern Alley), reconstructing the brick pavement on North Court Street from Carpenter Street to Fern Alley, and repairing sections of the existing storm sewer. The project also includes select sidewalk repairs on East State Street, Grosvenor Street, Franklin Street and Morris Avenue.
During the remainder of this week York Paving Company will continue installing the new storm tunnel; the City water crew is also expected to complete work to a waterline in the work zone.
York Paving Company expects to complete the installation of the new tunnel by early next week. Once the tunnel is installed they will begin work installing a catch basin and junction box near Cornwell Jeweler's. Columbia Gas is also expected to complete their work in this area next week. Preparation for the remainder of the bricklaying work is also expected to begin in the east lane.
During this construction period, North Court Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from Rose Alley to Carpenter Street - a marked detour will be maintained for the duration of the project. There will also be times during the project that will require the temporary closure of either the east or west sidewalk adjacent to North Court Street to protect pedestrians from construction activities. During these times a sidewalk detour will be marked and maintained.
Businesses between West State Street and Carpenter Street will remain open during the project, according to their individual schedules.
The City of Athens apologizes for any inconvenience that may be incurred during this work. Questions or concerns may be directed to the City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department, 740-593-7636.
