ARTS/West Presents a Dance Performance by the Athens Dance Collective on Saturday July 12, 2014.

Athens, OH—The Athens Dance Collective and ARTS/West will be presenting a dance performance on July 12, 2014. Doors open at 6:45. The show starts at 7pm and will feature choreographic works by Elizabeth Atwell, Chelsea Goettge, Berry Dilley, Missy Whaley, CC Ruchti, Ashley Eastman, Adrienne Covington, Emma Acheson, Rachael Schoonover, Quinn Schmalenberg, Rachel Couch, all of whom are also dancing in the performance. Darcy Higgins, Ali Smith, and Amanda de Santos will also be performing. A spoken word and sound collaboration by Wendy McVicker and Andrew Lampella will also be featured. The purpose of this performance is to provide a community-oriented opportunity for local dancers, choreographers, and performance artists to showcase their original work at ARTS/West.

The Athens Dance Collective is a group of dancers of many ages from the Athens community. The dance techniques celebrated in this performance are grounded in modern dance, improvisational techniques, authentic movement techniques, and fusions of movement and spoken word. The dance pieces are thought-provoking, vibrant, and honest. Many of the dancers in this performance have been involved in the past with Tiny Spaces Dance Company and Steampunk Ballet, both in Athens. Many of the dancers are also connected in various ways to Factory Street Dance Studio, whose mission is to provide non-competitive dance education in Southeast Ohio, promoting dance technique, self-esteem, personal growth and cooperative spirit.

The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this organization with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. Special thanks to the Athens Foundation, the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville and the Kleinpenny Foundation for their support. This show is being produced by Ellie Andrews, a choreographer, dancer, Athens native, and graduate of Ohio University School of Dance.
