Richland Avenue - Project Update
The Richland Avenue South project will rehabilitate and improve safety in the section of Richland Avenue between Dairy Lane and Canterbury Drive. The project includes new roadway reconstruction - with new curbing, sidewalks, bikelanes, pavement, and decorative lighting. The project also includes new water lines on the east side of the street, sanitary sewer upgrades, all new storm sewers, and traffic signal improvements.
This project, under study since 2008 and in detailed planning since 2011, has received more than 2.9 million dollars in federal and state funding. The City is pleased to announce that the project has been awarded to Shelly and Sands, Inc. The Contractor's proposed schedule for construction is early March 2015 to late August 2015, with a final completion date set prior to Ohio University move-in.
In preparation for the project, during autumn 2014, utility relocation work by Columbia Gas and Frontier Communications will be completed. AEP will also be relocating and improving overhead electric lines in the area. Time Warner Cable will be relocating overhead utility lines once the AEP work is completed. City forces will complete minor pavement repair in specific areas along Richland Avenue in order to prepare for winter weather.
The Richland Avenue corridor is a vitally important artery to the south part of the city, moving thousands of motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians daily, servicing dozens of businesses and homes, and carrying critical water, sewage, stormwater, electricity, and telecommunications to a huge swath of the city. The City looks forward to working with stakeholders along the corridor during construction.
