The City of Athens Arts, Parks, and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a ribbon cutting ceremony for the John and Aveline Dowler Memorial Park on Thursday, October 16 at 3 PM at the park, located on Aveline Street in Athens.
Dowler Park was acquired by the City of Athens in 2013 through a purchase and donation agreement between the city and members of the Dowler family. The 17+ acre parcel connects with the 5 acre Gawande Preserve that was donated to the city in by the Gawande family of Athens in 2011. The city’s 2014 Arts, Parks, and Recreation Master Plan has identified this area for a new south side trail network that would connect to Camp Rotan.
To reach the site from central Athens, take Pomoroy Road, turn left on Farhills Drive, and then left on Aveline Street.
