Planting in the biofiltration boxes on West Union Street is expected to occur the week of December 8, 2014. The biofiltration boxes were installed on West Union Street between Smith Street and Depot Street to reduce the quantity and improve the quality of stormwater entering the storm system.
The biofiltration boxes were completed as part of the West Union Sustainable Stormwater Interceptor Enhancements, a sub-project to the West Union Street Improvements Project, that also included installing a manufactured water quality system to treat stormwater generated from the City's west side, and a restoration project to a tributary to Oxbow Creek.
The stormwater enhancements project was financed in part through a grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency under the provisions of the Surface Water Improvement Fund.
