CITY OF ATHENS INCOME TAX FILING DEADLINE IS Wednesday, APRIL 15, 2015.
Citizens are reminded that the 2014 filing deadline for Athens City income taxes is April 15, 2015.
Taxpayers may now download tax forms on- line at http://www.ci.athens.oh.us/index.aspx?NID=213.
For taxpayers who have filed for a federal extension, the Income Tax Department will accept a copy of your federal extension attached to your return, at the time of filing. The form is no longer required to be filed in our office by April 15. This request extends the filing due date to October 31, 2015. However, if any 2014 tax is due, and/or if a first quarter 2015, estimated payment is due; these amounts are due by April 15, 2015.
Not everyone in the City of Athens is required to file. If an employer withholds the correct local tax from your wages, and if you have no other Athens City taxable income; no filing is required. You must file a return, if you live inside the City and your employer does not withhold taxes; or if you are self-employed; or own rental property; or have income from other, Athens City, taxable sources. Non-residents are liable for income earned inside the City. All businesses located inside the City limits, and all businesses owned by Athens City residents, must file a return, regardless of profit or loss.
For assistance with filing of your Athens City return, you may bring your information to the Income Tax Department at 8 E Washington Street, Athens Ohio, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Penalties and interest are assessed on the delinquent filing of returns and failure to pay taxes due.
